NEW DELHI - It hardly felt like June. Instead of a scorching hot day, Tuesday was a pleasant, breezy day in the capital, with the maximum day temperature dipping to the 20s - a good 14 degrees below the average. The mercury is, however, set to rise from Wednesday, the weatherman said.

“The maximum temperature recorded today (Tuesday) was 26.9 degrees Celsius, a good 14 degrees below the average for this time of the year. The minimum similarly was six degrees below the average, at 22.1 degrees Celsius,” an India Meteorological Department (IMD) official told IANS.

This was the coolest June 8 over several years.

The rainfall recorded over the past 24 hours was 0.8 mm, the met department said.

Taking advantage of the pleasant weather, many people were seen taking walks or sitting on the lawns of the India Gate in the afternoon.

Anjali Sharma, a marketing professional said: “It hardly feels like a summer day in Delhi! To enjoy it to the fullest, my friends and I decided to come to India Gate to catch up instead of sitting inside a coffee shop.”

The met department has however forecast clear skies Wednesday.

“There was a cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan because of which there were rains in Delhi. However the circulation has now weakened, therefore there is no more rain forecast for Wednesday,” the IMD official said.

The minimum and the maximum temperature Wednesday is expected to hover around 25 and 36 degrees Celsius, respectively.
