RAIPUR - The Chhattisgarh government Wednesday imposed a two-month ban on fishing in all rivers, water reservoirs and major ponds.

“The state government has declared the period from June 16 to Aug 15 as a ‘close season’ for fishing. The decision has been taken to protect fish in their breeding period,” a government statement said.

It added that those found flouting the ban would be booked under a law that provides for one-year imprisonment or a penalty of Rs.5,000 or both.
