Wet morning, more rains in store for Delhi

NEW DELHI - Delhi saw early morning showers Monday, causing waterlogging and traffic jams in a few areas. The weather office said more rains were likely during the day.

“The sky will remain cloudy with spells of rain, one or two may be heavy,” an India Meteorological Department (IMD) official said.

Delhi recorded 59.2 mm of rain from Sunday morning till 8 a.m. Monday, the met office said.

The rains led to waterlogged roads in some areas. Vehicular movement was disrupted in places like Model Town, Dhaula Kuan, Mori Gate, Lodhi Road, Lala Lajpat Rai Marg, Inter-State Bus Terminus at Kashmere Gate, Azadpur, Najafgarh, Bhajanpura, Andheria Morh, Yusuf Sarai and parts of Ring Road, the Delhi Traffic Police said.

The showers led to the temperature dipping sharply. The maximum temperature recorded Monday morning was 24.4 degree Celsius, 10 notches below average. The minimum was recorded at 21.8 degree Celsius, two notches below average.

Delhi has seen one of its wettest monsoons this year with the seasonal average of rainfall being 55 percent above the average at 952.2 mm.
