BHUBANESWAR, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- India’s nuclear-capable ballistic missile Agni-I was tested with significant on Thursday at the Wheeler Island off the coast of Orissa, officials have confirmed. According to defence sources, the nuclear-capable missile was fired from the launch pad 4 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) situated at a distance of 100 kms from the Orissa coast.

While revealing details of the launch of India’s nuclear-capable ballistic missile, Sitanshu Kar, a spokesperson of the defence ministry said that the missile was able to follow its scheduled trajectory with complete perfection and soon after the firing, it was able to reach the assigned location along the Bay of Bengal. At the same time, the defence ministry official also confirmed that Pakistan was given prior notice before the launch which is a regular routine the two countries follow whenever a missile testing is taking place. An official associated with the Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) has revealed that the 15-metre-long Agni-I has a highly developed navigation system which gives it the power to reach its target with accurate precision. Meanwhile, since the nuclear-capable missile has already been inducted in the Indian Army, defence ministry sources have emphasized that it is indeed important to carry out user trial so that the defense personnel can get proper training.

However, this is not the first time that the nuclear-capable ballistic missile has been test fired by the Indian officials. In the month of March this year, a trial of the missile was carried out with much success from the Wheeler Island off the coast of Orissa.
