NEW DELHI - The national capital witnessed the coldest Dec 22 of the last five years as the minimum temperature dipped to 5.2 degrees Celsius Wednesday - also making it the season’s coldest, the Met office said.

“Today (Wednesday) is the coldest day (Dec 22) in the last five years. The temperatures will dip further in the coming days,” an Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) official said.

The maximum temperature was a notch above average at 24.4 degrees Celsius while the minimum was 5.2 degrees, three notches below the average for this time of the season.

The IMD official said that Thursday would also be a nippy day.
