Amritsar coldest at 2.5 degrees, cold wave sweeps Punjab

CHANDIGARH - A cold wave continued to sweep Punjab and Haryana Saturday with Amritsar turning the coldest in the riverine plains at a minimum temperature of 2.5 degrees Celsius, the weather office said.

Amritsar city in Punjab, famous for the holiest of Sikh shrines Golden Temple, was one degree below the normal while Ludhiana and Patiala registered a minimum temperature of 4.2 and 4.5 degrees Celsius.

“We are expecting more fall in the temperature, especially during night, in Punjab and Haryana,” said an official.

Chandigarh, the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana, recorded a minimum temperature of 5.2 degrees, one degree below what is the normal for this season of the year.

In Haryana, Ambala, Karnal and Hisar cities recorded 4.0, 5.4 and 6.7 degrees respectively.

Light to dense fog engulfed Punjab and Haryana, disrupting road traffic at many places.
