DELHI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- The first solar eclipse or Surya Grahan of 2011 is taking place today and the stargazers are quite excited about this celestial event. It is going to be a partial eclipse and the residents of Delhi may be fortunate enough to get a glimpse of it. However, it is subject to the visibility of the sky. As a matter of fact, a solar eclipse happens when the moon is positioned between the sun and the earth and partially or totally blocks the sun from the earth. The astronomers say that the Dehliites have a slim chance of seeing this eclipse. Nehru Planetarium Director Rathnashree said “The eclipse would be at its peak at 3.32 pm. One can view the eclipse through projection using a long focal length telescope”.

The Nehru Planetarium will arrange for a special show on the transition of the moon just before the Surya Grahan as it has been reported. The residents of Mumbai have no luck and they will not be able to witness the celestial event. Nehru Planetarium, Worli’s director Piyush Pandey also admitted this. It is quite contrary to the lunar eclipse that can be watched from a lot of places simultaneously. The 2011 Solar eclipse will start at around and it will come to an end at 4.31pm.

The residents of North India will be able to see it from some selected places. The Surya Grahan will be visible from Central Asia, North Africa and Europe. For those in India who will not be able to witness the celestial event of 2011 the world wide web is the alternative.
