LUCKNOW - The cold wave in Uttar Pradesh claimed 13 more lives Sunday as the temperature dropped to new lows across large parts of the state. The death toll in the state has climbed to 82.

The disaster management department said five people died in Maharajganj along the Indo-Nepal border, four in Barabanki and one each in Deoria, Firozabad, Hardoi and Basti.

The mercury dipped to 0.6 degrees in Agra for the third time over the past five days, making the Taj city the coldest in Uttar Pradesh.

In state capital Lucknow, the minimum temperature took a marginal dip to 3.2 degrees.

However, bright sunshine at noon brought much desired relief from the chill. There was a sudden rush of people to the city streets and thorughfares. But it was back to icy conditions after sunset.

The weather office predicted similar weather conditions for “at least the next three days”.
