Bright sunshine in Chandigarh, but mercury dips

CHANDIGARH - There was bright sunshine in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh Sunday, but cold winds sweeping the region led to a plunge in temperature, the weather office said.

Punjab’s Amritsar city was coldest in the region at a low of 0.6 degrees Celsius. Patiala and Ludhiana cities recorded minimum temperatures of 6.3 and 3.6 degrees.

Chandigarh registered a minimum temperature of 4.7 degrees after recording a low of 12.2 degrees Saturday.

There was fog in Chandigarh and in various parts of Punjab and Haryana, including Amritsar, Ludhiana, Karnal and Hisar early Sunday. It was followed by bright sunshine at various places, said a Met official here.

We have also observed a dip in the mercury in this region. We are expecting more fog and further dip in the mercury in the coming days.

In Haryana, Ambala, Hisar and Karnal towns settled at minimum temperatures of 7.3, 4.4 and 8 degrees.
