Chandigarh to host Rose Festival

CHANDIGARH - A three-day rose festival will be held at the Rose Garden here Feb 25-27, it was announced Friday.

The 39th edition of the festival will also see concerts, musical nights, comedy shows, ‘antakshri’, food streets and various competitions.

“Live performances by singers Hans Raj Hans, Priyani Vani and Mohit Chauhan and comedian Uday Dahiya will add charm to the festival,” Chandigarh Tourism Secretary Ram Niwas said.

Many domestic and foreign tourists are expected, he said.

“In addition to the annual flower contest, there will be a ‘rose prince’ and ‘princess’ competition, brass and pipe band contest, on the spot painting, rose quiz, folk dances, photography competition, antakshri and kite flying,” Niwas said.

The Rose Garden was set up in 1967. Spread over 46 acres, it has 17,000 plants showcasing nearly 800 varieties of roses and medicinal plants.
