Mercury continues to soar in Orissa

BHUBANESWAR - The mercury continued to soar in Orissa with several places Wednesday recording maximum temperatures of more than 41 degrees Celsius, the weatherman said.
The day’s highest temperature in the state - 41.7 degrees Celsius - was recorded in the industrial town of Jharsuguda, 374 km from here, an official of the Bhubaneswar meteorological centre told IANS.
High temperatures were also recorded at Bhabanipatna (41.2), Baripada (41.0), Titilagarh (41.0), Bolangir (40.9), Angul (40.5) and Malkangiri (40.6).
However the maximum temperature came down in state capital Bhubaneswar and its adjoining Cuttack city from Tuesday’s 39.3 and 38.5 degrees Celsius to 36.0 and 35.6 degrees Celsius, respectively, he said.
The heat wave condition will prevail over some parts of the state Thursday, he added.
