Six Orissa towns record mercury above 40 degrees

BHUBANESWAR - At least six towns in Orissa on Sunday recorded temperature over 40 degree Celsius and two of these crossed 42 degree Celsius, an official said.

Jharsaguda town, more than 300 km from here, recorded a high of 42.4 degree Celsius - the day’s highest in the state, an official of the Bhubaneswar meteorological centre told IANS.

Titilagarh recorded a high of 42 degree Celsius. The other places where the maximum temperature was more than 40 degrees Celsius were Sambalpur (41.5), Bolangir (40.6), Bhawanipatna (40.5) and Sundegarh, he added.

Several other places also recorded temperatures between 38 and 40 degrees Celsius. Angul recorded a high of 39.5, Malkangiri 39, Phulbani 38.2, Keonjhar 38.5 and Chandbali a high of 38 degrees Celsius.

However, the maximum temperature came down in the state capital and adjoining areas.
