Showers likely in Uttar Pradesh Saturday

LUCKNOW - Temperatures across Uttar Pradesh have been hovering around a scorching 40 degrees Celsius but the weatherman has forcast rain in some parts of the state Saturday, signalling relief for the people.
“Due to upper air cyclonic pressure over western Uttar Pradesh, parts of the state would receive showers,” met department director J.P. Gupta told reporters here.
Some districts in Uttar Pradesh, particularly those in the western region like Bijnor, Muzaffarnagar, Agra, Bareilly and Badaun, are expected to receive “significant rainfall that will bring down the temperature gradually”, he said.
In the last few days, the maximum temperatures in the state have been hovering four to six degrees above average.
In the last 24 hours to Saturday morning, Lucknow recorded a maximum temperature of 39.6 degrees Celsius, four notches above average. Likewise, the maximum temperature in Varanasi was recorded at 41.5 degrees Celsius, in Allahabad at 39.9 degrees, in Kanpur at 39.5 degress and in Agra at 39.8 degrees.
Orai town in the Jaluan district remained the hottest place in Uttar Pradesh with the maximum temperature at 41.8 degrees Celsius.
