Heat wave sweeps Orissa as mercury tops 44-degree mark

BHUBANESWAR - Orissa is reeling under a severe heat wave with mercury rising to 44.2 degrees Celsius in Sambalpur town Wednesday, the Met Office here said.

High temperatures were also recorded in several other towns like Jharsuguda (43.3 degrees Celcius), Talcher (43.2) and Titilagarh (43.0), an official of the meteorological centre told IANS.

“Although a few costal towns such as Puri, Gopalpur, Paradip, and Balasore recorded maximum temperature between 30-37 degrees Celsius, a large number of places in the state recorded over 40 degrees temperature,” he said.
