KOLKATA - Residents of Kolkata reeled under a hot sun Saturday as the day’s high temperature climbed to 41 degrees Celsius.
“Today’s (Saturday) maximum temperature was 41 degree Celcius (four degrees above average) which is perhaps the highest recorded temperature in April in the past 10 years,” an official at the Alipur Meteorological Office told IANS.
He said the heat wave conditions were likely to continue in Kolkata and its adjoining districts for the next couple of days.
The weatherman also ruled out any chance of a norwester - a type of storm which leads to cooling late afternoon at this point of the year - in the next few days.
The streets were mostly seen deserted in the afternoon as the city has been scorched by a heat spell for past two days. The highest temperature recorded Friday in Kolkata was 40.1 degree Celsius.
