BHUBANESWAR - Orissa Monday hoisted storm warning signal in four of its ports as a depression formed over south-east Bay of Bengal was likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm, an official said.

A depression formed over south-east Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood lay centred at about 1,050 km south-south-east of Gopalpur in Ganjam district, an official of the Bhubaneswar meteorological centre told IANS.

Distant Cautionary Signal number-I (DC-I) has been hoisted at Paradip, Gopalpur, Chandbali and Puri ports.

“The current environmental condition and numerical weather prediction models suggest that the system is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm and move initially in a north-westerly direction towards Andhra Pradesh coast.”

Rain or thundershower were likely at isolated places over the state, the official said.
