MUMBAI - Following reports of stray dogs being killed in the Dombivli township of Maharashtra’s Thane district, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) has announced a monetary reward to those who provide information regarding the miscreants.

Federation of Indian Animal Protection Organisations (FIAPO), an animal protection NGO has offered a reward of Rs.10,000 for information that will help nab the persons responsible for the killing of the animals.

“According to various news reports, three dogs were found dead from the MIDC residential area in Dombivli, while a few others were struggling for life after they were allegedly poisoned,” said Sowmya Reddy, a member of FIAPO.

“We believe that other animals in the area may be in danger as long as those responsible for this crime are at large and urge residents not to leave animals outside unattended,” she added.

Reddy cited reports of mental-health professionals saying the “perpetrators of violent acts against animals are often repeat offenders who pose a serious threat not only to other animals but also to the community”.
