NEW YORK - Apple CEO Steve Jobs has called the new iPhone 4 “the most successful product launch in Apple’s history,” what with the gadget breaking all sales records in just days after it went on shelves.

The futuristic phone sold 1.7 million units in just two days, and could break 2 million when Sunday’s figures are factored in, according to Business Insider.

In fact, the sales figures could have notched higher if Apple could keep up with demand, the site reported.

The company had to delay delivering the iPhone 4 to some stores because it did not have enough phones in stock.

“No single smartphone model has been this successful,” the New York Daily News quoted analyst Daniel Ernst as saying.

However, such success was anticipated at the launch of iPhone 4-Apple sold 600,000 smartphones during a one-day preordering period day in early June.

It was the biggest one-day sale for the company and a 10 fold increase from the iPhone 3G.

ATnT, the designated carrier, will begin selling the phone on Tuesday, and Wal-Mart, Apple and Best Buy currently sell the phone. (ANI)
