NEW DELHI - While the monsoon is still a couple of days away for Delhi, spells of rain Sunday brought down the temperature by three notches in the capital, bringing relief for the residents.
Delhi recorded a total of 1.4 mm of rain between 8.30 a.m and 8.30 p.m. Sunday which brought both maximum and minimum temperature down by three notches each. The city had recorded 15.9 mm of rainfall till 8.30 a.m, the weather office said.
The maximum temperature was recorded at 33 degree Celsius while minimum was 25 degree Celsius.
The maximum temperature on Monday will hover around 33 degree Celsius while minimum is likely to be around 26 degree Celsius.
“The sky will remain generally cloudy with rains and thundershowers. One or two spells of rain may be heavy,” an India Meteorological Department (IMD) official said.
According to IMD, the monsoon will arrive in Delhi in next two days.
“The monsoon is expected to hit the national capital and the neighbouring areas by July 5 or 6,” IMD director B.P. Yadav told IANS.
According to Yadav, though the seasonal rains missed the onset date of June 29 this year, they were not delayed and first week of July was the normal arrival time.
“The monsoon in Delhi was not delayed, the usual time for arrival of monsoon is first week of July,” he said, “the monsoon is on time and the rainfall will be normal” Yadav added.
The IMD says the temperature is expected to remain on the lower side.
