NEW DELHI - The much-awaited monsoon is expected to hit Delhi within the next two days, the weather office said Sunday.

“The monsoon is expected to hit the national capital and the neighbouring areas by July 5 or 6,” said B.P. Yadav, director of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

He said the seasonal rains missed the onset date of June 29 this year while they reached the city June 30 last year.

However, Yadav said that first week of July was normal for the arrival of monsoon.

“The southwest monsoon has revived. By the next three to four days showers can be expected across the country. The monsoon in Delhi was not delayed, the usual time for arrival of monsoon is first week of July,” he said.

“The monsoon is on time and the rainfall will be normal,” Yadav added.
