LONDON - British motorists may soon be able to tweet while driving with new hands-free technology from car company Ford.

A new voice-controlled application on iPhones and BlackBerries, called AppLink, will allow you to do just that.

It reads ‘tweet’ updates out loud while the car is on the move - but does not allow the driver to respond.

The software was created following a study that highlighted the dangers of driver inattention.

“Making SYNC even more intuitive and easier to use will encourage more drivers to take advantage of its hands-free capabilities, helping them keep their focus on driving,” The Daily Mail quoted Mark Fields, Ford president of The Americas, as saying.

John Franklin, from the RAC, said, “However it’s debatable whether this type of technology will help as it’s likely to increase the distractions available to the driver.

“Tweeting while driving is an unnecessary distraction and shouldn’t be seen as an essential activity when behind the wheel.” verall, the opinion seems to be that as long as the driver only listens to the tweets and doesn’t have to fiddle around with the buttons, it can be considered safe.

“It is the driver’s responsibility to use the technology safely,” said an AA spokesman. (ANI)
