Week-long activities to mark World Space Week

NEW DELHI - Skywatches, painting, quiz competitions, activities and workshops are planned round the week to celebrate the World Space Week (WSW) 2010 Oct 4-10.

Astronomicans, the amateur wing of the Science Popularisation Association of Communicators and Educators (SPACE) will be hosting an event each day during the week to bring astronomy to the public.

The SPACE and Russian Center will mark the starting of the week by showing a movie on Sputnik at Russian Center to commemorate the 1st Sputnik launch Oct 4, 1957.

“Individuals and amateur astronomers will be hosting astronomy events such as skywatches, astronomy painting and quiz competitions, activities and workshops across the country,” said C.B. Devgun of the SPACE.

The World Space Week is an annual international astronomical event organised by the United Nations General Assembly from Oct 4-10. The objective is to celebrate the contributions of space science and technology for the betterment of the human condition.
