NEW DELHI - A dip in day and night temperatures, cool winds and a light veil of early morning fog in Delhi have set the stage for winter in the national capital, the weather office said here Tuesday.

The minimum temperature dipped to 16.5 degrees Celsius Tuesday from 18.2 degrees Monday. On Sunday, the minimum temperature was 18.2 degrees while it was 20.1 degrees Saturday.

“Over the past three days, the minimum temperature has been continuously dipping. Early mornings and late evenings are expected to be chilly for the next few days,” an official of the India Meteorological Department told IANS.

Snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir and the wind pattern over northwest India have brought down the temperatures in Delhi. “This is the first indication that Delhi is getting colder,” the official said.

“Tuesday’s minimum temperature is normal for this time of the season,” the official said, adding that the city will experience mainly dry weather and clear skies.

The minimum temperature will dip further Wednesday to 16 degrees, weather officials say.

The maximum temperature is expected to be a degree below the average at 30.5 degrees Tuesday. It was 30.6 degrees Monday and Sunday and 31.8 degrees Saturday.
