Capital braces for early onset of winter as mercury dips

NEW DELHI - Delhiites can look forward to early onset of winter now that mercury levels are dipping and the city is witnessing chilly mornings and evenings, the weatherman says.
The maximum temperature Thursday was recorded two notches below the average, at 30.2 degree Celsius, while the minimum remained at 15 degree Celsius, a notch below average for this time of the season.
The mornings will remain misty but thesky will be clear as the day progresses. The temperatures will fall further in the coming days, said an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here.
Humidity levels ranged between a high of 87 percent and a low of 28 percent.
The maximum and minimum temperatures Friday are expected to hover around 31 and 16 degrees Celsius, added the official.
Delhiites were seen draping themselves in light shawls and sporting sweatshirts to beat the early morning chill Thursday.
Amita Mehra, a student, said: “I have classes at 8.40 a.m. everyday and these days it’s rather chilly in the morning. So I have to wear a sweatshirt to college. However, as the day advances it starts getting pretty warm.”
