Diwali raises Delhi temperature, chilly week ahead

NEW DELHI - The capital witnessed the aftereffects of Diwali fireworks Sunday as both the maximum and minimum temperatures went up.

The maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 31.1 degrees, a notch above average and 16.4 degrees, three notches above average, respectively.

The rise in mercury is due to the Diwali fumes, the weatherman said. However, the temperatures are expected to dip below average Monday.

“There will be shallow fog early morning tomorrow (Monday) and the afternoon will be warm and clear. Evening will be chilly as the temperatures may dip below normal,” an India Meteorological Department official said.

“The week ahead will be colder as the temperatures will start dipping again,” he added.

The humidity levels oscillated between a high of 96 percent and a low of 45 percent.
