Himachal hills freeze after snowfall

SHIMLA - Widespread rain and snowfall in Himachal Pradesh in the past two days brought down the mercury Saturday with Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti district recording below freezing point night temperature, a Met official said.

Keylong recorded a low of minus 1.9 degrees Celsius, while the maximum was 7.8 degrees Celsius (Friday), Manmohan Singh, director of the meteorological office, told IANS.

Kalpa in Kinnaur district recorded the minimum temperature at minus 1 degree Celsius, while the day temperature was 9.8 degrees Celsius.

Keylong and Kalpa, respectively, recorded lows of 0.6 degrees and 1.0 degree Celsius Friday.

The minimum temperature in Shimla, which also experienced mild rainfall in the past two days, was recorded at 5.8 degrees Celsius.

Dharamsala in Kangra district recorded a low of 8.5 degrees Celsius, while it was 5.5 degrees Celsius in Bhuntar in Kullu district.

The Met office predicts mainly dry weather across the state till Sunday.
