CHANDIGARH - Nearly 2.75 crore saplings will be provided to people to plant by Haryana’s forest department till March 31 under its drive to make the state green and pollution-free.
“2.75 crore saplings of shisham, kikar, eucalyptus, neem, pipal and amla species will be provided to people free of cost up to March 31,” a forest department spokesman said here.
He said saplings of cloned eucalyptus and poplar trees will be provided at highly subsidised rates.
“Saplings of various trees were available in plenty in the nurseries of the department. The period up to Feb 20 is highly conducive for planting Poplar saplings, whereas saplings of other trees could be planted in the month of February, March, July and August,” the spokesman said.
He said there was no ban on felling of eucalyptus and poplar trees in the notified areas.
However, permit is required from the concerned forest circle officer for felling trees of other species in the notified areas.
