CHANDIGARH - The day temperature in Punjab and Haryana and their shared capital Chandigarh again remained below average Friday. The weatherman has predicted rainfall next week.

Chandigarh recorded a minimum temperature of 9.7 degrees Celsius Friday, four degrees below average.

In Punjab, Amritsar recorded a low of 10.5 degrees Celsius, two degrees below average. Patiala and Ludhiana recorded lows of 7.5 and 8.2 degrees Celsius respectively.

There has been a dip in the day temperature whereas the night temperature is quite stable in this region. However, we are expecting rainfall next week that will further cause a plunge in the mercury, said a Met official here.

He added: Melting of Himalayan snow in the coming days will bring intense cold waves thereby lowering the mercury in this region.

In Haryana, minimum temperatures in Ambala, Hisar and Karnal were 7.3, 10.2 and 8.2 degrees Celsius respectively.
