As north India burns, Hisar sizzles at 45.3

CHANDIGARH - As north India continues to suffer from the scorching heat, Hisar town in Haryana broke all previous records with a maximum temperature of 45.3 degrees Celsius Thursday, the hottest in the region.
Chandigarh, the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana, also experienced the hottest day of the season so far at 41 degrees Celsius.
“Thursday was the hottest day of this season in Chandigarh. It is the highest temperature recorded for this time of the year in the past seven-eight years. Normally mercury touches the 40 degree-mark by the end of April or in May but this time it’s really getting hot,” Surinder Paul, director of the Met office here, told IANS.
He added: “We are expecting clouds and there is also some bleak possibility of rain in this region by April 18 or 19. But it will not be enough to bring any substantial relief from this heat.”
Other towns in Haryana were also not spared the heat with Karnal, Bhiwani and Ambala recording temperatures of 42, 42.1 and 41 degrees Celsius, respectively.
In neighbouring Punjab state, Amritsar recorded 42.4 degrees Celsius. Patiala and Ludhiana cities registered 42.8 and 42.6 degrees, respectively.
