CHANDIGARH - The Chandigarh administration will digitise its property records in the next six months to bring more transparency and prevent red-tapism and corruption, an official said here Friday.
The finance department has approved the proposal. “The idea is to offer comfortable, transparent and efficient service to the residents of Chandigarh. After digitisation of property records, anybody sitting anywhere in the world can go through them at any point of time,” Assistant Estate Officer (AEO) Hargunjit Kaur said.
“Nearly 70,000 old files — each file containing at least 500 pages — will be first scanned and then put online in the next six months. It would be very beneficial in the long run. It is also mandatory under the Right to Information (RTI) Act to digitise office records.”
The administration has assigned the work to the information technology department at a cost of Rs.2 crore.
Kaur said apart from facilitating people, digitising records will help the administration prevent red tapism, corruption and keep a tab on unscrupulous agents.
