Hisar sizzles at 48 degrees

CHANDIGARH - A high of 48 degrees Celsius, the second highest temperature ever recorded, had Hisar town in Haryana sizzling on Saturday.
Temperatures across Punjab and Haryana remained at over 40 degrees at all places. Some of the cities and towns recorded individual highs of over 44 degrees.
The highest temperature ever recorded in Hisar was 48.8 degrees May 26, 1998.
Saturday’s 48 degrees in Hisar was seven degrees above the average.
In neighbouring Punjab, Amritsar was the hottest at 44.7 degrees followed by Patiala at 44.6 and Ludhiana at 44.5 degrees. All these places were six degrees above the average.
Chandigarh, the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana, recorded 42 degrees, four degrees above the average.
In Haryana, Karnal and Ambala recorded 42.6 and 42 degrees respectively.
Met department officials ruled out a possibility of rain in the region in the next few days though some parts of Punjab are likely to remain partially cloudy Sunday.
