Amritsar hottest in Punjab at 47 degrees Celsius

CHANDIGARH - Amritsar in Punjab recorded the highest temperature of this season at 47 degrees Celsius Wednesday and Hisar town, in neighbouring Haryana, sweated at 47.9 degrees as the heat wave intensified over the region, a Met department official said.

The highest ever temperature recorded in Amritsar was 47.7 degrees Celsius on May 21, 1978.

The industrial city of Ludhiana reeled at 46.5 degrees while Patiala town, 70 km from here, recorded a high of 45.6 degrees.

In Haryana, Karnal recorded 45 degrees Celsius followed by Ambala at 44 degrees.

Chandigarh recorded its highest temperature of the season at 43.2 degrees Celsius.

Met officials here forecast no let up in the heat wave conditions in the coming days.
