NEW DELHI - The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Friday announced a restructuring of 216 Sulabh Souchalayas to high-end public toilets in Delhi.

Subhash Arya, leader of the MCD house, told reporters: “Our aim is to provide urinals on roads which have better facilities than five-star hotels.”

The new urinals are being constructed with a view to protecting the environment and use less of resources by using solar energy. They will have water-saving devices and attractive prefab structures.

“These will help conserve water and also tackle the problem of foul odour,” Arya said.

“Though it is aimed at general public interest, the MCD will also earn a considerable revenue,” he added.

The public would be charged a maximum of Rs.2 for the usage, same as Sulabh Souchalayas. They would facilitate more than 4.32 lakh people on an average in a day.

“We are providing services at 216 locations. Additional facilities are provided for the physically challenged, old citizens, pregnant ladies and children,” Arya said.

“These high-end toilets will be opened not only in posh localities of South and Central Delhi but at different parts of the city providing facilities to citizens of all categories,” he added.

He also claimed that the construction of all 216 toilets would be completed within eight months.

Delhi has a total of 1,200 Sulabh Souchalayas.
