LUCKNOW - Monsoon has been delayed by a few days in Uttar Pradesh where it normally arrives by June 15, an official said Thursday.

“Monsoon might arrive in the state by June 19-20 because of climatic conditions generated due to cyclone Phet in the Arabian sea,” the director of the state meteorology department, J.P. Gupta told reporters here.

“In Lucknow, the monsoon could arrive by June 20-22, instead of June 18 — the normal date of its arrival,” he added.

Meanwhile, the state meteorology department has predicted thundershowers and squall in parts of Uttar Pradesh in the next 48 hours, particularly in the eastern region.

“An upper air cyclonic circulation has strengthened in east Uttar Pradesh and could bring rainfall in parts of the state,” said Gupta.
