MUMBAI - South Mumbai was lashed by heavy rains for nearly two hours Friday and received nearly 70 mm of rain, weather officials said.

According to officials of the India Meteorological Department, Mumbai (IMD, Mumbai) Colaba (south Mumbai) registered 67.1 mm of rainfall, starting 4 p.m. till 5.30 p.m. Friday.

Heavy rainfall caused water-logging in several parts of the area leading to traffic jams at various places in south Mumbai.

The Mumbai airport runway operations were reportedly suspended for nearly 15 minutes, causing a delay of 45 minutes in landing and take-off of various flights. However, the airport authorities refused to confirm the same.

Officegoers were either stuck in office, or on the roads due to traffic jams. Several incidents of trees falling at Colaba area in south Mumbai added to the bad traffic conditions.

Weather officials have predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours.
