TEHRAN - Iran has produced 17 kg of 20 percent enriched uranium and can produce as much as it needs, the head of Iran’s atomic energy said Wednesday.

“We have made 17 kg of enriched uranium (at the level of 20 percent) so far, and we can produce up to five kg of the fuel in a month,” Ali Akbar Salehi, head of Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran, told ISNA news agency.

He added that Iran was not going to turn its entire uranium stockpile into 20-percent enriched fuel, but it reserved the right to enrich uranium to any percent it needed.

He said Iran is building a heavy water reactor and will produce new centrifuges.

“Testing of third generation of centrifuges is completed and we are working on fourth generation of centrifuges,” Salehi said, adding Iran is not going to make atomic bombs or violate the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.
