Heavy rains hit normal life in Orissa

BHUBANESWAR - Heavy rains, triggered by the southwest monsoon, hit normal life in some parts of Orissa Friday.
The highest 130 mm of rainfall was recorded at Soro in Bhadrak district followed by Ambabhona town in the same district which witnessed 110 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours, he said.
In Bhubaneswar and its adjoining city Cuttack, schools, colleges and offices witnessed thin attendance due to heavy downpour. Waterlogging was reported from the low lying areas of both the cities while road traffic was disrupted at many places.
“The state is likely to witness more rains during the next 24 hours,” S.C. Sahu, director of the meteorological centre here, told IANS.
Vehicles were also seen stranded on both sides of the national highway that connects the two cities.
No loss of human or damage to property has been reported from any part of the state so far, an official of the state revenue control room said.
