NEW DELHI - Heavy rains lashed Delhi Tuesday and in their wake brought back the perennial problems of waterlogging and traffic jams yet again, adding to the woes of the commuters.

Denizens of the city were seen striding through ankle-deep water as some of the roads were completely submerged.

Some hapless people could be seen dragging their two-wheelers which had stalled in pools of water on several roads.

According to the Delhi Traffic Police, waterlogging was reported from Adhchini Marg, railway underpass in Sarita Vihar and Ashram intersection in south Delhi, Rohtak Road and Rama Road in west Delhi.

There were traffic snarls at Adhchini Marg, railway crossing at Palam Vihar in south Delhi and the stretch between Ashok Vihar and Wazirabad in north Delhi.

Delhi has received 22 mm of rainfall from Monday night to 8.30 a.m. Tuesday. The Met Office has forecast more rains during the day.

“The sky will remain cloudy and one or two spells of rain may be heavy,” an India Meteorological Department (IMD) official said.

The minimum temperature in the morning settled at 24.4 degrees Celsius, average for this time of the season. The humidity was recorded at a high of 97 percent.

Delhi has seen one of its wettest monsoons this year with the season’s rainfall being over 57 percent above the average at 1,035.7 mm.
