NEW DELHI - It was a bright and sunny Tuesday in Delhi with no chance of rain, the weather office said, paving the way for an interruption-free second day of the Oct 3-14 Commonwealth Games.

The skies will remain clear in Delhi, said an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

“No rainfall was recorded from any part of the city. There are no chances of rainfall today (Tuesday) or in the coming days,” the official said.

The minimum temperature was 22.9 degrees Celsius, two notches above average for this time of the season, while the maximum was expected to hover around 34 degrees.

The maximum humidity level was recorded at a high of 93 percent while the minimum was 42 percent.

The capital witnessed one of its wettest monsoons this years as the rainfall received so far crossed 1,031.5 mm - around 56 percent above the seasonal average. The heavy rains gave some anxious moments to the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee and the government officials and residents who prayed for successful completion of the mega event.

Some 7,000 athletes and officials from 71 countries and territories are in the capital for the Games, India’s biggest sporting event since the 1982 Asian Games.
