India successfully tests n-capable Agni I missile

BHUBANESWAR - India Thursday successfully tested its nuclear capable surface-to-surface Agni I missile from a test range in Orissa, a defence official said.

The missile, which can strike a target 700 km away, was tested by army personnel as part of user-trials from a facility on Wheeler Island in the district of Bhadrak, about 200 km from here, director of the test range S.P. Dash told IANS.

He described it as a “text book” launch.

Agni is an intermediate range ballistic missile. developed under India’s Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme and first tested in May 1989.
