WASHINGTON - Wearing those glasses while watching a 3-D movie may soon become a thing of the past, as new glasses-free 3-D devices are about to hit the Japanese market.

These gadgets, described as ‘autostereo’ to distinguish them from the kind requiring eyewear, would include game consoles, cameras, cellphones, and tablet computers.

Among the first will be autostereo 3-D TVs, just now hitting stores in Japan, and Nintendo’s 3DS handheld games console, due for release worldwide early next year.

Currently, getting glasses-free 3-D means giving something up-brightness, for example, or the ability to watch with a friend.

But developments in research labs may bring autostereo 3-D without trade-offs. (ANI)
