Jamia professor wins young scientist award

NEW DELHI - A biotechnology professor at the Jamia Milia University has won the first prize in the young scientists award category in the third International Conference on Parthenium-2010 (ICP-2010), a statement said Monday.

Winner Mohammad Irfan Qureshi presented a paper in the field of plant molecular biology titled ‘Introducing the Weedomics: Understanding the Tolerance Mechanism of Weeds’.

The conference held Dec 8-10 was organised by Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) and Entomological Society of India in Delhi.

“The organising committee appreciated the newly introduced concept of Weedomics and expressed that with time this branch of science will grow into an independent area,” the statement said.

“The conference was attended by eminent scientists from the US, Australia, Brazil among others,” it added.
