SHIMLA - The hills of Himachal Pradesh might experience more rain and snowfall in the next three days, a weather official said here Tuesday.

“There are chances of more rainfall and snowfall in the state from Jan 12 to 14,” Meteorological Office Director Manmohan Singh told IANS.

He said the western disturbances - storm systems originating from Caspian Sea and moving across the Afghanistan-Pakistan region - would be active again in the region.

Most of the prominent tourist towns located in mid hills like Shimla, Narkanda, Kufri, Manali and Dalhousie may witness moderate snowfall after Thursday, he said.

Shimla already received season’s first snowfall on New Year’s eve. It was for the first time in eight years the town experienced snow on the last day of the year.

The town received around four inches of snowfall.

Another picturesque town Manali, some 250 km from Shimla, experienced a mild spell of snow Sunday.

It had also seen good spells of snow in the last two days of 2010.

Shimla Tuesday recorded the minimum temperature at 4.8 degrees Celsius, whereas Monday’s maximum was 11.3 degrees.

Kalpa in Kinnaur district recorded a low of minus 4.8 degrees, while it was 0.4 degrees at Bhuntar and 3.3 degrees at Dharamsala.
