CHANDIGARH - In a bid to curb carbon emissions, the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has introduced solar-powered rickshaws in the city.

The rickshaws are fitted with a battery charged by sunlight. In the first phase, the corporation has allotted five solar-rickshaws to registered rickshaw pullers.

“Special training has been provided to rickshaw pullers. Soon we will allot the remaining rickshaws to those who complete the training course,” corporation joint commissioner T.P.S. Phoolka said Thursday.
