CHANDIGARH - A sudden spurt in peacock deaths in two districts of Haryana has forced the government to take steps to save the bird.

According to an NGO here, over 150 peacocks died in Narnaul and Rewari districts last month. “The reason behind most deaths was electrocution. In some cases they died after consuming pesticide,” animal activist Naresh Kadyan told IANS.

Haryana Forests Minister Ajay Singh Yadav told IANS: “We have directed the concerned officials to insulate the wires at the earliest. Besides we are going to establish a separate sanctuary for peacocks in Rewari district to provide natural environment for their breeding.”
