CHANDIGARH - The administration here will soon launch a Bachat Lamp Yojana (Save Lamp Plan, BLY) to reduce domestic energy consumption, an official said Wednesday.

Under BLY, incandescent bulbs in Chandigarh homes will be replaced by Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs) at a price similar to that of the bulbs.

“Domestic consumers will get good quality CFLs at subsidised prices. The implementation of the scheme would certainly reduce the energy consumption of Chandigarh,” Finance Secretary Sanjay Kumar said.

As part of this scheme, every household here will be given four CFLs at Rs.15 each compared to the market price of Rs.80 to Rs.100.

“Although, the use of CFLs is increasing in the city but we have observed that its penetration into households is limited due to its high price. After the implementation of this scheme the total electricity saving potential in Chandigarh will be approximately 60 lakh units per year,” Kumar said.
