First lady: math, science important to nation
WASHINGTON — First lady Michelle Obama tells middle and high school science teams that math and science are important for the nation’s economic future, and she hopes subjects energize all kids.
Mrs. Obama visited the Department of Energy’s National Science Bowl Monday, reading bonus questions in the middle school championship match.
Afterward she joked that she had to study just to properly read the questions.
Earlier she emphasized that science and math are important driving factors in the nation’s prosperity and that she hopes that the high school and middle school students at the bowl will help reaffirm the country’s role in scientific discovery.
