CHANDIGARH - Bringing much-needed respite from the scorching heat, Chandigarh and its surrounding areas were lashed with moderate to heavy rainfall Sunday.

However, weathermen are still not sure whether these showers were due to monsoon clouds.

“It is too early to claim that today’s (Sunday) rainfall was due to monsoon clouds,” Surender Paul, director of Chandigarh meteorological centre, told IANS.

“There was moderate to heavy rainfall in Chandigarh and various parts of Punjab and Haryana like Patiala, Sangrur, Ambala and Karnal. It will certainly bring down the temperature by four to five degrees Celsius and increase the humidity percentage in the atmosphere,” he added.

The maximum temperature in Chandigarh Saturday was recorded at 36.3 degrees Celsius. During the past week, the mercury kept fluctuating between 36 to 39 degrees Celsius.
