Clear, cold morning welcomes 2011

NEW DELHI - The first day of 2011 saw a cold breeze blowing in the morning and the weatherman said the skies would be clear but without much sunshine.

“The rains have brought in a chilly breeze. The day is expected to be cold, and the skies will be clear,” said an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The minimum temperature stood at 11 degrees Celsius, four notches above the average for this time of the season.

“It would be a no-sunshine day though, the official added.

Even a cold and freezing night Friday didn’t deter Delhiites from celebrating and partying hard. The maximum temperature dipped to 17.8 degrees Celsius, four notches below the average.

“The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 17 degrees Celsius, the weather official said.

The humidity level stood at 98 percent.
