NEW DELHI - Another death due to the severe cold was reported in the national capital even as a sunny morning brought much-needed respite for Delhiites Tuesday.

Police said a man was found dead Monday due to the cold near Town Hall, office of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, taking the city’s toll to eight this season.

The day temperature Tuesday rose partially compared to the previous day.

Met officials, however, said no respite can be expected soon as temperatures would remain low in the coming days.

According to the India Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature Tuesday remained two notches below average at 19.2 degrees Celsius.

This is appreciably above the 15 degrees recorded Monday, while Sunday was the coldest in many years at 11 degrees.

The minimum temperature was also two notches below average at 4.6 degrees.

Shallow fog which was there in the morning cleared off soon and no flights were cancelled at Delhi airport though some train services suffered delays.

The weatherman says that the maximum and minimum temperatures on Wednesday will be around 20 and 6 degrees, respectively.

The weather official said that the next couple of days will be similar though some rain was likely around Jan 13-14, which may bring the temperatures down again.

The sky will be cloudy and there are chances of some rain. The temperature may fall a bit after that, he said.
